Deus ex Machina Speaks, Abnormis Sapiens Listens

by Thomas Neubert,

This painting began as an abstract painting about corporations as legal persons.   But my words on the painting were too flailing (unfocused) and my working title  was incomprehesible to anyone but me. But as I painted the  large machines and tiny men within; the two latin expressions "deus ex machina" and "abnormis sapiens" burst into my mind. "abnormis sapiens" does not mean "abnormal man"; it means "by nature wise". The rest of the poetic words and well as the Acronyms of corporations and some large organizations gelled in my mind. I had resolved a troubling aspect of the painting; this painting was not an accusation or indictment; it is rather a statement of reality to be reckoned and recognized. Something beyond good or evil so to speak.
